Community Connect: Har Ghar Tiranga in Uttam Gram villages

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign (marking India’s 75th year of independence) was organized by Sehgal Foundation in twenty-five Uttam Gram villages in seven states (Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar) of India with a number of events between August 10–15, 2022. About 3,400 villagers (800 men, 950 women, 1,650 children) gathered at the central point of the village and schools and sang the national anthem. ABSA Award for work in Agriculture Development 
S M Sehgal Foundation received Agri Business Summit & Awards, ABSA 2022, for agricultural development work. The foundation team promotes sustainable livelihoods in India by building capacities of farmers, including women farmers, on improved agricultural practices and new technologies that increase crop yields, conserve water, and improve soil fertility. Mr. Salahuddin Saiphy, principal lead, Water Management, accepted the award on behalf of the foundation team in a ceremony held on August 27, 2022, at Hotel Park Hyatt, Hyderabad.

Trustees engage with staff members 
S M Sehgal Foundation trustees, Ms. Neelima Khaitan and Dr. Suhas Wani, interacted with the staff members in thematic sessions, sharing useful insights on the topics “CSR Ecosystem: Challenges and Way Forward” and “The Changing Dimensions of the Agriculture Sector in India” respectively. Both sessions led to important discussions on the topics and helped the team to reflect on future strategies.

Union Minister inaugurates transformed school in Haryana 
S M Sehgal Foundation organized the inauguration of the transformed Government Middle School at Sarmathla Village, Sohna Block, Gurugram. The Honourable Minister Sh. Rao Inderjit Singh, Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Ministry of Planning, Statistics, Programme Implementation and Corporate Affairs, Government of India, inaugurated the transformed school. Ms. Anjali Makhija, trustee and CEO, along with Mrs. Sashi Ahlawat (District Elementary Education officer-Gurugram). Mr. Gaurav Singh (additional director, CSR Trust, Haryana), village sarpanch, School Administration, and SMC chairman also participated in the event. The Honourable Minister endorsed the school upgradation.

Transformed school wins State-level Cleanliness Award, Rajasthan Government 
Senior Secondary School, Sahudi, Alwar, Rajasthan, received the Swacch Vidhalya Award at a State Level Program organized by Department of Education. Principal Smt. Kiran Verma, along with Smt. Madhu Bhargava (CBEO), Rajasthan, accepted the award. The transformation work on the school along with establishment of a Digital Library was done under the Transform Lives one school at a time program in 2021, which has transformed the lives of 449 schoolchildren, and counting.

World Water Week Celebrations

World Water Week 2022 (Aug 23-Sep 1) was celebrated together with community members in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Representatives of Agriculture department, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, State Administration, scientists from State Groundwater Dept, Soil Water Conservation dept participated. Sarpanch, ward members, Water Management Committee members of thirteen villages were present. Street plays performed by students of Social Work Department of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University on water saving and importance of village/panchayat water budget were organized in three villages.

Generating awareness on efficient water uses in Rohira village, Nuh

S M Sehgal Foundation conducted a three-day participatory awareness generation exercise from June 14–16, 2022, in the Rohira village, Punhana block of Nuh district of Haryana to make the community aware of the condition of water availability and usage in their village. The process was community-driven with the support of primary and secondary data from various sources, i.e. Census, Gram Panchayat, Patwari, etc. Read more  . . .
