IAM Recognizes Sehgal Foundation, USA, for COVID Relief Work India Association of Minnesota (IAM), based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, recently honored Jay Sehgal, head of Sehgal Foundation’s US operations, with a Person of the Year award for his efforts to arrange the delivery of much-needed equipment and supplies to rural India to help mitigate the harmful effects of COVID.

Strawberry farming, an alternative to economic gain
Siddhartha Raj and Naveen Pratap Singh Farmer Khagesh of Panchnota village, Mahendragarh district of Haryana, took up the commercial cultivation of strawberries in a half- acre of his land. A small demonstration benefitted him a lot and inspired others as well.

Drinking Water Quality Testing course completion S M Sehgal Foundation in partnership with CAWST organized a free six-week self-directed online course on Drinking Water Quality Testing (DWQT) introducing the fundamental concepts of DWQT using potable water quality field test kits designed to meet the needs of humanitarian, development workers, or community health workers, who may not have access to laboratory testing equipment or services. Thirty participants across six different countries took the course, completed on March 30, 2022.

Village Fair Cleanliness Celebration S M Sehgal Foundation organized a Swachhata Samaroh (Cleanliness Celebration) on March 27, 2022. More than 450 women from all women’s groups engaged in promoting WASH behavior, participating enthusiastically to showcase their progress, and come together to learn new things under a project “WASH for Healthy Homes” that engages ten women’s groups in partnership with CAWST and supported by Fig Tree Foundation in Jafrabad Panchayat, district Vaishali, Bihar. The project focuses on behavior change toward safe drinking water, handwashing, and sanitation practices.

Presentation at CSAS Spring Symposium at Univ of Hawaii Pooja Oberoi Murada, S M Sehgal Foundation, was invited to speak as part of a panel on “The Art of Communication about Health” on April 21, 2022, as part of the 39th CSAS Spring Symposium 2022: Health and Community in South Asia, held online by the University Of Hawai‘i Mānoa. She talked about the Positive Deviance application in development communications for behavior change during and post-COVID-19 wave for a rural audience.
